Belonging
“I am enough”
I am small — three years old. I wake from an afternoon nap, and my fuzzy eyes take in the colorful quilt beneath me. A light blanket lies over top, just enough to hold my tiny body in comfort. It is mid-July, hot, and the loud whirl of the AC unit in Grandma’s window is barely cutting through the humid, soupy heat.
I push myself up and off Grandma’s bed to trudge down the hall. She is knitting in the rocking chair, watching her show. She gets me a bowl of flavored ice — the kind she makes in an ice cube tray with Kool-Aid, chopsticks, and aluminum foil. I lay on my sheepskin rug in bliss: happy, loved, safe.

Lemon Balm is the Grandmother’s hand on your back, steadying your spine mid-tantrum. She makes do with what is on hand and always finds plenty to share. She is a bright, cool drink on a hot summer’s day and a warming cuppa on a winter’s eve. Versatile, steady, and strong, Lemon Balm is the blade that bends with the wind rather than breaking. When the mind is full of friction and the emotions run fiery, She softens the urge to raze the world to the ground, gliding in with guidance both gentle and firm: “You are safe. You are Whole. Nothing needs doing urgently.”
I would love to hear more about your relationship to plants and the web of interbeing. Please consider a public comment on this post. When we all share, we all build more connection to the natural world, our Mother and our home.
Stay wild and true
